6.1Keyword for Video-File Functions

The keyword smc: in an ftp command invokes a video-ﬁle function. So, for example, to obtain a directory listing of the video ﬁles on a Sun MediaCenter server, you enter the following command:

ftp> dir smc:

The output from dir smc:, as above, is identical to that of smc_ls, described in Chapter 5.

To obtain a listing of video ﬁles with all relevant attributes, enter:

ftp> ls smc:title=\*

You receive output such as the following:

smc:title=Bambi,format=MPEGPS,speed=1000,type=data,rate=3000000 smc:title=java_class,format=MPEG1SYS,speed=1000,type=data,rate=1500000 smc:title=haircut,format=MPEGTS,speed=1000,type=data,rate=2600000

The attributes shown in the preceding output are described later.

Note that, at the ftp prompt, if you enter a ls or dir command without the smc: keyword, you receive a listing of the UFS ﬁles in the current working directory, just as you normally would. Standard FTP functions remain unchanged.
