Norton360 also provides different profiles to configure
yourscan performance. When you use the Full Scan
profile,Norton 360 follows the Blacklist technique to
scanyour computer. It scans all of the files on your
computeragainst the signatures that it obtained during
definitionupdates. When you use the Standard Trust
orHighTrust profile,Norton 360 follows the Whitelist
techniqueto scan the files based on their confidence
level. This way, Norton 360 significantly reduces the
timethat is required to scan your computer completely
forsecurity threats.
TheWhitelist technique that Norton Insight uses also
helpsin heuristic detection of suspicious applications.
Normally,the execution behavior of well-known
applicationsappears identical to the execution behavior
ofunknown applications. Such behavior results in false
identificationof good applications as suspicious, and
therefore,necessitates security applications to
maintaina low heuristic detection threshold. However,
keepinga low detection threshold does not provide a
completeheuristic protection against malicious
applications.Norton 360 uses the Whitelist technique
thathelps maintain a high heuristic detection
threshold.It excludes well-known applications from
heuristicdetection to prevent false detection of
well-knownapplications and to ensure a high detection
rateof malicious applications.
Viewingthe files using Norton Insight
NortonInsight provides information about the Files of
Interestthat are available on your computer. Norton
360lets you view specific categories of files based on
