NortonAntiSpam uses Symantec enterprise-class,
spam-filteringtechnology to classify the spam email
messagesfrom legitimate email messages. Norton
AntiSpamuses a real-time filter delivery mechanism
andfilters email messages using various local filters
atdifferent levels. The local filters classify the email
messagesas spam or legitimate. If the local filters
classifythe email message as legitimate, Norton
AntiSpamcollects information such as signature and
URLhashes of the email message. Norton AntiSpam
thensends this information to the Symantec Web
serverfor additional analysis.
Whenthe email message is classified as spam, Norton
AntiSpamchanges the subject of the email message
andsends it to your email client. The email client
identifiesthe change in the subject of the email
messageand moves it to the Junk folder or the Norton
AntiSpamfolder.
TheNorton AntiSpam local filters use Whitelist
technique,Blacklist technique, and patented filtering
technologyto classify email messages as spam or
legitimate.For these filters to work efficiently, Norton
AntiSpamrequires antispam definition updates at
regularintervals through LiveUpdate. These updates
containsignature information of spam and legitimate
emailmessages. The updates also contain any new rule
thatSymantec creates to filter spam email messages.
NortonAntiSpam uses predefined email rules and the
user-definedAllowed List and Blocked List, to expedite
thescanning of email. It accepts email messages from
thelist of allowed email senders and blocks email
messagesfrom the list of blocked email senders.
NortonAntiSpam also automatically imports the lists
ofaddresses from supported email programs during
theinitial integration. It helps you keep your list of
allowedand blocked email senders in sync with your
