Appendix B

Taktmx

A time average over a sampling interval that uses the highest level occurring during the preceding Taktmaximal Interval, either three or five seconds, and assumes that it was present for the whole Taktmaximal Interval.

Third-octave band

A Third-octave band is defined as a frequency band whose upper band- edge frequency is 1.26 times the lower band frequency.

Threshold

An SPL value that defines a lower level of acceptable values. Only SPL samples that exceed the threshold are used in some calculations.

TWA

Time weighted average. The constant SPL over an 8-hour interval that would produce the same exposure to sound as an exposure measured over a run time sampling interval (Rtime).

TWA = ER log2 0RTIME 2L ⁄ ER dt – log2 ( CT ) dB

Upper Limit (UL)

The total time during a study that the SPL exceeds the Upper Limit meter setting.
