ePass the upper thread under the side cutter, and then pull it out toward the rear of the sewing machine.

fSelect a stitch.

For details, refer to "Selecting stitching" (page 47).

gMake a cut of about 2 cm (3/4 inch) long in the fabric at the beginning of the stitching.

The cut in the fabric should be positioned over the guide plate of the side cutter.

iLowersewing.the presser foot lever, and then start

• If the stitching is sewn in a straight line 63 , the seam allowance will be about 5 mm (3/16 inch).

zThe side cutter can cut as much as one layer of 13-oz. denim.

zAfter using the side cutter, clean it by removing any lint or dust.

zIf the side cutter can no longer cut fabric, use a rag to apply a small amount of oil to the cutting edge of the cutter.
