Auto Focus Area

This setting allows you to select between a wide, multi-zone focus region and a spot focus region. See Focusing on the Subject on page 37 for examples of Multi and Spot focus.

1.In the Capture Menu (see page 62), select Auto Focus Area.

2.Use the buttons to highlight a setting.

3.Press to save the setting.

Setting Description

Multi (Default) Use this setting for general-purpose picture taking or to focus on a subject not in the center of the scene. The camera searches for focus in each of five zones, starting from the closest distance.

Spot Use this setting with Focus lock (see page 40) if the camera keeps focusing on the wrong subject. The camera uses a small area in the center of the scene region to focus.

If the new setting is anything other than the default, the icon for the setting appears in the Live View screen.

The Auto Focus setting remains in effect until it is changed again, or until you turn the camera off. To save changed settings, use My Mode (see page 56).

NOTE: Auto Focus Area does not apply in Manual Focus.
