DAL TADKA

INGREDIENTS | ½ tsp | Black peppercorns, slightly crushed | ||
1 cup | Masoor Dal, cleaned | ¼ tsp | Asafoetida (hing) |

1 tsp | Salt | ½ tsp | Turmeric powder |
|
3 cups | Water | 1 | Onion, chopped |
|
3 tbsp | Ghee or oil | 2 tbsp | Garlic, chopped |

1 tsp | Cumin seeds |

METHOD
Wash and soak dal for 1 hour. Drain water. Place the dal, 1tsp salt and 3 cups of water in a very large bowl. Microwave covered on HIGH for 20 minutes. In another bowl, microwave ghee, cumin and peppercorns for 30 seconds. Add the chopped onion and garlic, asafoetida and turmeric powder. Microwave for a further 4 minutes. Remove and add this to the cooked dal. Stir well. Season to taste. Stand for 5 minutes before serving.
