Functional Notes
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allows interfaces to acquire a dynamically-assigned IP
address from a configured DHCP server on the network. Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) r equire
the use of DHCP when connecting to their service s. Using DHCP reduces the number of dedicated IP
addresses the ISP must obtain.
Usage Examples
The following example releases the IP address assigned (by DHCP) on the Ethernet interface (eth 0/1):
(config)#in t et h 0/ 1
(config-eth 0/1)#ip dhcp release
If you are currently connected to the unit using a Telnet session through the Ethernet
interface, using the ip dhcp release command will terminate your Telnet session and re nder
your Telnet capability inoperable until a new IP address is assigned by the DHCP server.
