Maintenance Information
While the router retrieves and reloads the configuration file from the remote host, the console display indicates whether or not the operation is successful. A series of exclamation points (!!!!) and [OK] (as shown in the preceding example) indicates that the operation was successful. A series of periods (...) and [timed out] or [failed] indicate a failure (which would probably be due to a network fault or an incorrect server name, address, or filename).
The following is an example of a failed attempt to boot from a remote server:
Booting | [timed out] |
Step 9 If the display indicates that the process was successful, as shown in Step 8, proceed to the Step 10.
If the display indicates that the process failed, verify the name or address of the remote server and the filename, and repeat the preceding steps. If you are unable to retrieve the configuration file, contact your network administrator or see the “Obtaining Technical Assistance” section on page 89 for instructions on contacting technical assistance.
Step 10 To ensure that the configuration file was retrieved correctly, use the show
Router# show startup-config
Using 1186 out of 126968 bytes
!
version 11.1 hostname Router
!
Router#
Step 11 To ensure that the startup configuration file stored in NVRAM is the default running configuration file used by the system, use the copy
Router# copy running-config startup-config
Router#
This completes the procedure for retrieving the saved configuration file.
Replacing and Upgrading DRAM DIMMs
This section describes how to remove and replace RSP8 DRAM DIMMs.
The default DRAM configuration is 64 MB, residing on up to two DIMMs. The DRAM DIMM sockets are U12 (bank 0) and U15 (bank 1). (See Figure 2 and Table 4.)
Caution To prevent system problems, do not use DRAM single
Note Do not mix memory sizes. If installing two DIMMs, both DIMMs must be the same size. If your router includes redundant RSPs, the RSPs should have the same memory size.
