Table 10-4 RMON Statistics Screen Field Descriptions

Use this field…

To…

RMON Index

See the current Ethernet interface for which statistics are being shown.

(Read-Only)

The SmartSwitch device has an embedded RMON agent that gathers

statistics for each interface on the device.

Data Source

See the source of the statistics data that is currently being displayed on

(Read-Only)

the screen. Figure 10-4shows that the data source for this RMON

index is Port 1 by displaying the name IfIndex.1. If the screen was

displaying RMON statistics for Port 4, the name displayed would be

IfIndex.4.

Owner

See the name of the entity that configured this entry.

(Read-Only)

Status

See the current operating status of the displayed interface. This field

(Read-Only)

displays “valid” or “invalid”.

Drop Events

See the total number of times that the RMON agent was forced to

(Read-Only)

discard frames due to the lack of available switch resources.

NOTE: The Drop Events field does not display the number of

frames dropped, it only displays the number of times that the

RMON agent was forced to discard frames.

Collisions

See the total number of collisions that have occurred on this interface.

(Read-Only)

Broadcast Pkts

See the total number of good frames that were directed to the broadcast

(Read-Only)

address. The value of this field does not include multicast frames.

Multicast Pkts

See the total number of good frames received that were directed to a

(Read-Only)

multicast address. The value of this field does not include frames

directed to the broadcast address.

CRC Align Errors

See the number of frames with bad Cyclic Redundancy Checks (CRC)

(Read-Only)

received from the network. The CRC is a 4-byte field in the data frame

that ensures that the data received is the same as the data that was

originally sent.

Undersized Pkts

See the number of frames received whose size was less than the

(Read-Only)

minimum Ethernet frame size of 64 bytes, not including preamble, but

have a valid CRC.
