5 Configuration

This chapter presents some typical configurations using either the AB286A/C or AD313A HCA.

NOTE: For 410533-B21 configuration information, see the “Component identification” section in the server blade user guide, or in the maintenance and server guide, at the HP website: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/c-class-bladeservers.htmlhttp://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/c-class-bladeservers.html

Supported Features

The following are HP Fabric Clustering System features:

Diagnostics: Supported

You can run diagnostics to obtain information on many of

the HP Fabric Clustering System components using the

itutilcommand. For a more about the itutil

command, see “Using Itutil” (page 56)

For information on HP Fabric switch diagnostics, see

“Troubleshooting the HP Fabric Network” (page 126).

OnLine Addition and Replacement

On-Line Addition and Replacement (OL*) of HP Fabric

(OL*): Limited Support

adapters is supported on HP Fabric Clustering System

version B.11.23.02 or newer with a couple of limitations

related to replacing an HP Fabric HCA, see “Replacing an

HP Fabric Clustering System HCA (HP-UX 11i v2 only)”

(page 39) for details.

Serviceguard: Supported

Serviceguard is supported with IPoIB. See “Configuring

IPoIB Interfaces for Serviceguard Clusters” (page 72) for

details. Within a cluster, Serviceguard groups application

services (individual HP-UX processes) into packages.

Configuration Parameters

This section discusses the limits for HP Fabric Clustering System configurations. There are numerous variables that can impact the performance of any particular configuration. For more information on specific configurations for applications, see “Supported Configurations” (page 52).

HP Fabric Clustering System is supported on many HP servers. For the latest list of supported servers, see the HP Fabric Clustering System Support Matrix on http://www.docs.hp.com in the I/O Cards and Networking Software section under Fabric Clustering System for InfiniBand.

Maximum Supported Nodes and Adapter Cards (AB286C)

A maximum of 8 fabric adapter cards are supported per instance of the HP-UX operating system. The actual number of adapter cards a particular node is able to accommodate also depends on slot availability and system resources. See node specific documentation for details.

Maximum Number of Switches You can interconnect (mesh) two 24-port copper switches in a single cluster. HP recommends only meshing a maximum of two 24-port copper switches. A subsequent software release may support more switches or a switch with a higher port count in order to accommodate more
