Using the Documentation

The command descriptions in the following chapters are structured in a way we hope provides quick access to the information you seek. Each command description is broken into subsections so you can go directly to the desired information. The subsections are described below.

Synopsis

The Synopsis subsection provides a terse description of the command.

Syntax

The Syntax subsection provides the command syntax.

•Text in regular courier text is literal and entered exactly as shown.

•Italicized courier text indicates a variable that is replaced with an actual value.

•Text enclosed within square brackets ([ ]) are options to the command that do not have to be included on the command line for the command to work.

•The pipe character () indicates a choice where one argument must be entered.

The following are a few syntax examples:

terminal length int

no ntp server-one server-two server-three

fc srp itl guid ext t_wwpn fc_lun [policy]

Input strings such as device names and descriptions are usually assumed to be contiguous without any intervening spaces or blanks. In the event you wish to enter a multi-word string, enclose the string within double-quotes (“ “), otherwise each word in the string is parsed as a separate argument and will result in a syntax violation.

The syntax examples are followed by descriptions of each argument on the command line.

Command Modes

The Command Modes subsection indicates the command mode you must be to execute the command.

Privilege Level

The Privilege Level subsection indicates the user permissions that are required to execute the command. For example, there are commands that only an unrestricted read-write user (e.g., super) can execute that a user with general read-write permissions (e.g., admin) cannot.

Usage Guidelines

The Usage Guidelines subsection supplies additional information and details for executing the command.
