BATTERY, STARTER, ENGINE,

ALTERNATOR & PROTECTION

CIRCUITS

The 12VDC battery powers the starter motor and, through the ignition switch, the engine protection cir- cuitry. In the event of a low oil pressure or a high coolant temperature condition, the engine protection system shuts the engine off.

The idle / engine protection PC board or, the engine control unit (ECU) monitors the oil pressure sensor, and the coolant temperature sensor. If either sensor “ faults,” the engine is shut down.

The engine alternator supplies “charging” current for the battery circuit. If the alternator would cease to func- tion correctly, due to a broken fan belt or other mal- function, the engine protection system would shut the engine down.
