802.1x Port Security

This section describes how to configure the 802.1x Port Security feature on a switch port. IEEE 802.1x authentication prevents unauthorized clients from connecting to a VLAN unless these clients are authorized by the server.

Overview

802.1x Port Security:

Prevents unauthorized clients from connecting to a VLAN

Can be configured on a per-port basis

Example

The following is an examples of how the 802.1x Port Security feature is used.

Example 1#: Enable 802.1x Authentication on One Port in a VLAN

The following example shows how to enable 802.1x authentication on one port, and to allow only the user with the name “adam” to access the VLAN.
