Configuration Parameters for Optical Networks

When configuring optical PROFIBUS networks, the following parameters must be taken into account:

SUsing fiber-optic cables, only point-to-point links can be established.

SThe maximum signal attenuation of the transmission path (the power budget) must be within the permitted values.

SThe minimum or maximum permitted transmission rates of the components (only one uniform transmission rate can be used in a network).

SThe cascading rules for the components used.

SThe maximum permitted number of nodes in the network.

SIn large-span networks, the transmission delay time.
