Allows the user to add, delete, and change a routing entry or allows the user to get information about an entry.

route add –o -dest <dest_ip_addr> -gateway <gateway_ip_addr> [-netmask mask] [-mtu value] [- hopcount value]

route delete –o -dest <dest_ip_addr>

route add is used to add a routing entry. The destination address and the gateway to reach this destination address must be specified. The netmask will be computed based upon the class of the destination address if it is not specified. For example, a netmask of 255.255.255.0 will be taken for a destination address of 192.168.3.0 since this is a class C address. If the destination is directly reachable via an interface requiring no intermediary system to act as a gateway, the interface modifier should be specified.
