LAN Connections Over a WAN
When LANs are distributed over a large physical area (such as within a metropolitan area) or cabling is not available between sites, you can lease appropriate unloaded copper pairs from a local carrier for LAN connectivity. For transport over public networks, you can connect the public T1 network (DSX-1 signal) to the LAN through desktop units with CSU/DSX-1 interface cards and the Campus-REX2 in a desktop unit. This application, as shown in the following figure, simplifies access to public high-speed WANs for LAN connectivity to remote sites.
