Chapter 5: Troubleshooting

To configure the motherboard jumpers and set up the BIOS

To configure the AMI Series 757 WINBIOS Parameters with 1.44 Mbyte floppy drive

Use this procedure to set the motherboard system setup parameters, also known as the WINBIOS setup.

1Connect the power cable to the oscilloscope.

2Connect an external VGA monitor to the rear panel connector of the oscilloscope.

3 Connect an external keyboard and a mouse to the oscilloscope.

4Hold down the Insert key on the external keyboard, then power-on the oscilloscope. Continue to hold down the Insert key until information begins to appear on the external VGA monitor.

a You should hear a burst of clicks from the internal hard disk drive as it executes its internal self-tests.

b After approximately 10 seconds, the text on the external VGA monitor should read as follows below the caution.

CAUTION

DO NOT PRESS F2!

 

When the listing instructs you to “Press F2 to load default values and continue,”

 

DO NOT press F2 to load the default values since some units will not boot with default values.

Messages Vary Slightly

These messages may vary slightly depending on the motherboard version.

If you see the word "ERROR" in the last few lines, or the oscilloscope does not appear to be functioning, check the motherboard jumper settings and the ribbon cable connectors. Proceed to the Primary Trouble Isolation flowchart. Otherwise, continue with the next step.

5Press F1 to run the WINBIOS setup.

During the setup program, you can control the cursor with the mouse. If the mouse does not appear to work, press the Esc key on the external keyboard to exit the setup program. Turn off the oscilloscope, and ensure that the mouse is properly connected to the rear panel connector. You may also need to remove the cover and ensure that the mouse connector is correctly connected to the motherboard by the PS/2 Mouse Cable W22.
