To remove and replace RAM SIMMs or SDRAM DIMMs

Use this procedure to remove the cover and disconnect cables, then remove and replace either SIMMs or DIMMs on the motherboard, depending on the type of motherboard in the oscillscope. When necessary, refer to other removal procedures.

1Disconnect the power cable and remove the cover.

2 Remove the hard disk drive.

3 Disconnect the following cables from the motherboard connectors and set them aside:

Serial port cables W24 and W25

Parallel port cable W23

Mouse connector cable W22

Motherboard floppy cable W7

Motherboard hard drive cable W9

Removing and replacing SIMMs on the AMI motherboard

Use this procedure if the oscilloscope has an AMI motherboard.

1There are four SIMM sockets. Remove SIMMs starting with the SIMM closest to the chassis side panel. To remove each SIMM, push the retaining clips at each end to the side, then tilt the SIMM forward and pull it out.

2To replace SIMMs, reverse the assembly procedure. Install SIMMs in the opposite order of removal. When the SIMM is correctly installed, the locating fingers on the SIMM socket will engage the holes in the SIMM, and the retaining clips will snap around the sides of the SIMM.

Removing and replacing SDRAM DIMMs on the FIC motherboard (not pictured)

Use this procedure if the oscilloscope has an FIC motherboard.

1Locate the DIMM slots on the FIC motherboard. Carefully pull the DIMM straight up and out of the slot.

2Insert the new DIMM by pushing it straight down into the DIMM slot using both hands.

3Make sure the clips on the slot close up to hold the DIMM in place when the DIMM touches the bottom of the slot.
