Troubleshooting 6-3MN1903

6.2.2 Communication
Ifthe problem is notlisted below pleasec ontact Baldor Technical Support. An oscilloscope will
beuseful for manyof the elec trical tests described below.
Symptom Check
Cannotdetec t NextMove
PCI
Check that the NextMove PCI driver has been installed.
Cannotc ommunicate with
thecontr oller.
Verifythat WorkBenc h v5 is loaded and that NextMove PCI
isthe c urrently selected controller. The MintMT operating
system(firmware)must be downloaded to the controller
eachtime it is powered.
Check the card is firmly seated in its socket inthe computer
andthis s ocket is of the correct type.
Check that the green S1 LED on the card backplate is
flashing( approximately twice per second).
6.2.3 Motor control
Symptom Check
Controller appears to be
working but will not cause
motorto tur n.
Check that the connections between motor and drive are
correct. Use WorkBench v5 to perform the basic syst em
tests (see section 5.4 or 5.8).
Ensure that while the controller is not in error the drive is
enabledand work ing. When the controller is first powered up
thedrive s hould be disabled if there is no program running
(thereis oftenan LED on t he front of the drive to indicate
status).
Check that the servo loop gains are setup correctly -chec k
theFine-tuning w indow.See sec tions 5.4.2 to 5.6.
Motorruns unc ontrollably
whencont roller is switched
on.
Check that the encoders are connected, they have power
throughEnc oder V+ (if required, see section 4.5.3) and are
functioningc orrectly. Use a dual trace oscilloscope to
display both channels of the encoder and/or the complement
signals simultaneously.
Check that the drive is connected correctly to t he breakout
moduleand that with z ero demand there is 0V at the drive
demandinput. See s ection 5.4.1.
Verifythat the break out module and drive are correctly
groundedto a c ommon earth point.
