3.3 Installation
NextMove PCI can be installed into an AT style personal computer that has a fr ee 7 inch PCI
cards lot. TheBaldor Motion Toolkit CD supports thefollowing operating s ystems:
Windows 95,Window s 98,Window s ME,W indows NT4 andWindow s 2000.

3.3.1 Installing the NextMovePCI card

CAUTION: Beforetouching t he card, be sure to discharge static electric ity from your
bodyand c lothing by touching a grounded metal surface. Alternatively,
wearan earth s trap while handling the card.
1. Exitany applications thatare running and c lose all windows. Shutdown Windows.
2. Turnoff the power (if not automatically done by Windows)and unplug all pow er cords.
3. Remove the cover fromthe computer systemunit.
4. Locatean unused PCI s lot.
5. Removethe backplat e cover from the slot, and save the screw for lateruse.
6. Dischargeany st atic electricity from your body and clothing.
7. Removethe card from its protective wrapper. Donot touch the gold c ontacts at the bottom
ofthe car d.
8. Alignthe bottom of the card ( gold contacts) with the slot and press the card firmly into the
socket. Whencor rectly installed, the card locks into place.
9. Makesure that the top of the c ardi s level (not slanted) and that the slot on top of thec ard’s
metalbrac ket lines up with the screw hole in the PC case.
10. Insert the screw and tighten to s ecure the card.
Ifyou ar e also installing NextMove PCI expansion card(s ) or a CAN Bracket board see section
3.3.2before c ontinuing with step 11.
11. Replace the computer cover and s crews.
12. Reconnect any cables and pow er cords that were disconnected or unplugged.

3.3.2 NextMove PCI Expansion card and CAN Bracket board

1. Removethe backplat e and install the NextMove PCI ex pansion card in the neighboring slot
onthe component side of t he mainN extMove PCI card. See sections A.1.1 for details about
connections to the NextMove PCI card.
2. Ifyou are installing a CAN Bracket board,removethe back plate froma s pare PCI slot location
and install the card. See sections 4.6 and A.1.9 for details about the connections to the
NextMovePCI card.
This completes the basic installation.
