Making Converged Networks a Reality

Making Converged Networks a Reality

The Cisco ICS 7750 is a new offering in the Cisco Architecture for Integrated Voice, Video, and Data (AVVID) product line. By combining the elements needed to build a complete IP telephony system, including data and voice networking, the Cisco ICS 7750 provides a truly “converged” solution. The modular design of the Cisco ICS 7750 gives you the flexibility to choose the capabilities you need now while enabling you to add capacity, redundancy, and e-business applications as your needs change.

Cisco AVVID

The Cisco ICS 7750 is built on the open and scalable Cisco AVVID. Cisco AVVID includes three components: infrastructure, such as switches and routers; clients, such as IP phones, H.323 videoconferencing equipment, and PCs; and applications, such as call control. Cisco AVVID is an architecture for integrated data, voice, and video over a common IP transport. For more information, refer to the white paper Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data.

Cisco IP Telephony Architecture

Cisco AVVID is an open, standards-based architecture for Voice over IP (VoIP). Unlike traditional office environments, in which the data and voice networks are separate (see Figure 1-2), in a converged network, the telephony and IP components are integrated (see Figure 1-3).
