Troubleshooting Processors
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1Turn off the sled and attached peripherals.
2Remove the sled from the server enclosure. See "Removing a Sled" on page 133.
3Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" on page 141.
4Ensure that each heat sink is properly installed. See "Installing a Heat Sink" on page 144.
5Ensure that there is thermal grease on the heat sink and processor.
6Ensure that each processor is properly installed. See "Installing a Processor" on page 148.
7Replace the cooling shroud. See "Installing the Cooling Shroud" on page 142.
8Reinstall the sled into the enclosure. See "Installing a Sled" on page 134.
9Turn on the sled and attached peripherals.
10If the problem persists, turn off the sled and attached peripherals.
11Remove the sled from the enclosure. See "Removing a Sled" on page 133.
12Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" on page 141.
13Remove processor 2. See "Removing a Processor" on page 147.
14Replace the cooling shroud. See "Installing the Cooling Shroud" on page 142.
15Reinstall the sled into the enclosure. See "Installing a Sled" on page 134.
16Turn on the sled and attached peripherals.
If the problem persists, the processor is faulty. See "Getting Help" on page 229.
