Troubleshooting the DIVAT/A

Common Problems

Listed below are possible solutions to common problems.

SecurID is not working with the DIVAT/A.

Depending on the server type, the DIVA T/A might support SecurID. For more information see “SecurID Connectivity” on page 85.

The Windows Configuration Tool does not detect the DIVAT/A.

If you are running RAS or the Dial-Up Networking Server, or if other software is using the DIVA T/A, shut them down and restart the Configuration Tool. Make sure that the COM port is free by trying to open it with software such as Hyperterminal.

If you are using Windows 95/98, open Device Manager and verify if there are any conflicts. You might also want to try the diagnostic tool found in ‘Start’, ‘Settings’, ‘Control Panel’, ‘Modems’.

After installation, the modem speed cannot be set higher than 115,200 bps (Windows 95/98/NT 4.0)

Remove and re-install the INF file as described in “Windows 95/98/NT Installation and Setup” on page 9.

When I set my modem speed to 230,400 bps, Dial-up networking reports ‘Error 630: modem not responding…’

You are using a PC equipped with UART 16550, which only supports a maximum speed of 115,200. Change the speed of your modem to 115,200 bps or install a fast COM port card.

Under Windows 95/98, you can determine your PC's maximum com port speed by selecting ‘Start’, ‘Settings’, ‘Control Panel’, ‘Modems’, ‘Diagnostics’, ‘More Info’.

Dial-up Networking fails. The DTE LED does not flash during a dialing attempt.

Verify that Flow Control settings are correct for your modem. Under Windows 95/98 you can determine your modem settings by selecting ‘Start’, ‘Settings’, ‘Control Panel’, ‘Modems’, ‘Properties’, ‘Connection Tab’,‘Advanced’. On the ‘Advanced’ panel verify that ‘Use Flow Control’ is checked and ‘Hardware RTS/CTS’ is selected.

The ‘Fault’ LED goes on.

Contact Eicon Technology and follow the instructions in “Dumping the DIVA T/A Memory” on page 136.

When using V.120 you cannot connect to a Bit Surfer Pro modem.

Use the command AT!E4=10.

When using V.120 over a Bit Surfer Pro modem, you can connect but cannot transfer data.

Use a different packet size by entering the command AT!E0=256.
