Opening a Log File Set

You can open any log file set that has been saved on the system, including the master log files for your agent hosts.

Step 1. From the Network Node screen, display the Open dialog box (Figure 7-5) with one of:

 

Choose the File > Open menu item

Select one of the existing file names (it does not matter whether you choose the alert or

 

 

error version) for the file set you want by clicking on its name.

Click Open or press Alt-Oto open the alert and error log files.

 

 

A new Network Node screen is created with the file set path name in the title bar and

 

 

the contents of the alert and error logs in the Alerts and Errors tabs.

 

 

To cancel the open, click Cancel or press Alt-C.

Log File Rotation

Both the alert log file and the error log file are designed to support log file rotation. If the file names are changed while the HP-UX HIDS agent software is running, the agent software will recreate the files and continue to log to the newly created files. Log rotation permits periodic archiving of alerts or errors. See also “Log File Rotation” on page 205.
