3.18 Room monitor feature

This feature allows you to listen in on a room where a handset or base unit is located. The monitored extension will not ring, allowing you to easily monitor, for example, a baby’s room from different areas of the house. If you want to prevent your unit from being monitored by other extensions, leave this feature OFF (default setting). An extension currently in use cannot be monitored.

3.18.1Turning ON the room monitor feature (Handset)

This allows the handset to be monitored.

Make sure the handset is not being used.

1Press {MENU}.

2Press {0}{9}.

3Press {1} to select On.

LPress {0} to select Off.

4Press {SAVE} (soft key).

5Press {OFF}.

3.18.2Turning ON the room monitor feature (Base unit)

This allows the base unit to be monitored.

1Press {MENU}.

2Press {#}, then {7}{4}.

3Press {1} to select ON.

LPress {2} to select OFF.

4Press {SET}.

5Press {MENU}.

Note:

LYou can also turn ON the base unit room monitor feature using the handset (feature 0;3 on page 90).

3.18.3 Monitoring a room

Important information:

The unit to be monitored must not be in use.

With the handset

1Press {HOLD/INTERCOM}.

2Press {MONITOR} (soft key).

3To call the base unit, press {0}.

To call another handset, enter its extension number ({1} to {4}).

LYour handset will start to monitor the

room through the destination unit.

LTo monitor from the speaker, press {SP- PHONE}. You can place the handset on the charger and continue monitoring. To

switch back to the receiver, press {TALK}.

LThe monitored unit will display Room monitor.

LIf an incoming call is being received, you will hear 2 tones (feature 13 on page 88). To answer the call, select the called line by pressing {LINE1} (soft key) or {LINE2} (soft key).

4To end monitoring, press {OFF}.

LThe base unit user can stop being monitored by pressing

{LOCATOR/INTERCOM} or {SP- PHONE}. The monitored handset user can stop being monitored by pressing

{OFF}.

With the base unit

1Press {LOCATOR/INTERCOM}, then press {MUTE}.

2To call the handset, enter its extension number ({1} to {4}).

L The base unit will start to monitor the room through the handset.

L The monitored unit will display Room monitorthen the duration time.

L If an incoming call is being received, you will hear 2 tones (feature #73 on page 83 and feature 0*2 on page 90). To answer the call, select the called line by pressing

{LINE1} or {LINE2}.

3To end monitoring, press

{LOCATOR/INTERCOM} or {SP-PHONE}.

L The monitored handset user can stop being monitored by pressing {OFF}.

Note:

LIf the room monitor feature of the destination unit is OFF, DENIEDwill be displayed and busy tone will sound.
