SuperTrak EX Series User Manual

The physical drive in channel 2 fails. The disk array becomes degraded and its logical drives go critical. The SuperTrak controller automatically rebuilds the disk array using the spare drive, the physical drive in channel 4.

As we saw in the example of Automatic Transition, if you replace the failed physical drive in channel 2, the SuperTrak controller would transition the data from the physical drive in channel 4 to the new drive in channel 2.

But if you wanted to use a different physical drive in your array, such as the unassigned drive in channel 3, you would run the Transition function manually.

When the Manual Transition is finished:

The physical drives in channels 1 and 3 belong to the disk array.

The physical drive channel 2 is still failed and unusable.

The physical drive in channel 4 is a revertible spare drive.

At this point, after running the Manual Transition, you would replace the failed drive in channel 2. The replacement drive in channel 2 will remain unconfigured until you assign it to a disk array or as a spare.
