Creating and Using Internet Blocking Rules
If you don’tw antt o block your students’ access to the entire Internet,y ouc ans till block
yourstudents’ access t o specific web pages usingI nternetblocking rules. Each Internet
blockingrule consists of either:
lAlis t of restricted web pages(which blocks studentsfrom openingany web page
onthe list), or
lAlis t of approvedweb pages (which blocks students from openingany web page
that’snot on the list).

SMART Sync comes with a default Internet blockingrule that allows you to block
allweb pages.

CreatingInternetBlocking Rules

Youcan create Internet blockingrules in SMART S ync Teacher.Alt ernatively,y ouc an
loadrules createdby other teachers (see SharingInternet Blocking Rules on page76) or
userules created by an administratoror teacherin S MART Sync Administrator Tool.
To createa rule 1. Click Internet .
TheInternet view appears.
2. Click Add New .
TheInternet Blocking Rule dialogbox appears.
3. Typea name for the rulein the Rule name box.
4. Click Block the following websitestoallow all websitesexcept those you
includein the rule.
OR
Click Block everything exceptthe following websitesto block all websites
exceptthose you include in the rule.
