Using multi-zone configuration

This unit allows you to configure a multi-zone audio system. The multi-zone configuration feature enables you to set this unit to reproduce separate input sources in the main zone, second zone (Zone 2), third zone (Zone 3) and fourth zone (Zone 4). You can control this unit from the second, third or fourth zone using the supplied remote control.

Connecting the Zone 2, Zone 3 and Zone 4 components

You need the following additional equipment to use the multi-zone functions of this unit:

An infrared signal receiver in the second zone, third zone and/or fourth zone.

An infrared signal emitter in the main zone. This emitter transmits the infrared signals from the remote control via the infrared signal receiver in the second zone, third zone and/or fourth zone to a CD player or a DVD player, etc. in the main zone.

An amplifier and speakers in the second zone, third zone and/or fourth zone.A video monitor for the second room.

Since there are many possible ways to connect and use this unit in a multi-zone configuration, we recommend that you consult with your nearest authorized Yamaha dealer or service center about the multi-zone connections that best meet your requirements.

Using external amplifiers

Connect the external amplifiers in the second zone and third zone to the ZONE OUT (ZONE 2/ZONE 3) jacks with analog cables and connect the external amplifier in the fourth zone to the OPTICAL (ZONE 4) jack with the optical digital audio cable.

You can also connect the external amplifier (with volume control) in the fourth zone to the analog ZONE 4 OUT jacks with an audio cable.

Only analog signals are sent to the second, third and fourth (analog ZONE 4 OUT) zones. Any source you want to listen to in these zones must be connected to the analog AUDIO IN jacks of this unit.

When this unit is in the party mode (page 129), audio signals input at the HDMI IN jacks or DIGITAL INPUT jacks are output at the ZONE OUT (ZONE 2/ZONE 3) and OPTICAL (ZONE 4) jacks.
