Using the NET USE command
If you are running Windows XP/Server 2003/2000/NT and using NetBIOS to connect to the printer, we recommend that you use the NET USE command, as follows:

3.Check that Client for Microsoft Networks is in the Components list. If necessary, click Install to install it.
4.Run the command prompt and then enter the following command.
NET USE printer port: \\NetBIOS name of print server\Device name of print server
Selecting the port
1.Click Start, point to Settings, and then select Printers.
