Link Troubleshooting

If the HP J4100A JetDirect 10/100Base-TX print server does not successfully connect to the network, both LEDs will be off and a “LOSS OF CARRIER ERROR” will be indicated in the MIO section of the HP JetDirect self-test page.

NOTE

The HP J4100A JetDirect 10/100Base-TX print

server may require up to 10 seconds to establish a

connection on the network. You should wait up to

30 seconds before printing a configuration page to

verify a network connection.

Try the following troubleshooting procedures:

Verify cabling connections.

At the network device (such as a switching hub) that connects the print server to the network, configure the port for half- duplex operation. Then power-cycle the printer.

Manually set the link configuration both on the JetDirect print server and at the network device, ensuring that the link configurations are the same. (For example, if you set the HP JetDirect print server for 100TX Full-Duplex operation, the port on the network hub or switch must also be set to 100TX Full-Duplex operation.) Be sure to power-cycle the printer.
