Characters Are Distorted or Incorrect Check the following:
• Are the brightnessand contrast controls properly adjusted on the video monitor? See the
manufacturer’sdocumentation.
• Is the videomonitor signal and power cable properly installed?
• If the problem persists,the video monitor may be faulty or it may be the incorrect type.
Contact your servicerepresentative or authorized dealer for help.
System Cooling Fans Do Not Rotate Properly If the system cooling fans are not operatingproperly, system components could be damaged.
Check the following:
• Is DC Power applied to the power terminals on the back panel?
• Did you press thepower button?
• Is the power on light lit?
• Have any of the fan motorsstopped (use the server management subsystem to check the fan
status)?
• Are the fan power connectorsproperly connected to the server board?
• Is the cablefrom the front panel board connected to the server board?
• Are the power supply cables properlyconnected to the server board?
• Are there anyshorted wires caused by pinched cables?
If after double-checkingthe above list the system fans do not rotate properly contact your service
representativeor authorized dealer for help.
Diskette Drive Activity Light Does Not Light Check the following:
• Are the diskettedrive’s power and signal cables properly installed?
• Are all relevant switchesand jumpers on the diskette drive set correctly?
• Is the diskettedrive properly configured?
• Is the diskettedrive activity light always on? If so, the signal cable may be pluggedin
incorrectly.
• If youare using the onboard diskette controller, use the Setup Utility to make surethat
“Onboard Floppy”is set to “Enabled.” If you are using an add-in diskette controller, make sure
that “Onboard Floppy”is set to “Disabled.”
If the problem persists, there may be a problem with the di skette drive, server board, or drive signal
cable. Contactyour service representative or authorized dealer for help.
Hard Disk Drive Activity Light Does Not Light The hard diskdrive activity light is not connected to the xSeries 343 server board.
