Removing and Installing Processors
Note
If the serverhas been running, any installed processor and heat sink on the
processor board(s)will be hot. To avoidthe possibility of a burn, allow the
unit to cool-down and be careful when removingor installing server board
componentsthat are locatednear processors.
Processor must be appropriate: Youmay damage the server if you install
a processorthat is i nappropriatefor your server. Make sure your servercan
handle a newer, faster processor (thermal and power considerations). For
exact informationabout processor interchangeability, contact your customer

Handling Static-sensitive Devices

Attention: Static electricity can damage electronicdevices and your system. To avoid damage,
keep static-sensitivedevices in their static-protective package until you are readyto install them.
To reduce the possibilityof electrostatic discharge, observe the following precautions:
Limit your movement. Movementcan cause static electricity to build up around you.
Handle the device carefully, holding it by its edges or its frame.
Do not touch solder joints, pins, or exposed printed circuitry.
Do not leave thedevice where others can handle and possibly damage the device.
While the deviceis stillin its anti-static package, touch it to an unpainted metalpart of the
systemunit forat least two seconds. (Thisdrains static electricity from the package and from
your body.)
Removethe device from its package and install it directly into your systemunit without setting
it down. Ifit is necessary to set the device down, place it in its static-protective package. Do
not place thedevice on your system unit cover or on a metal table.
Take additionalcare when handling devices during cold weather because heating reduces
indoor humidityand increasesstatic electricity.
