vWhen using memory mirroring, you must install two pairs of DIMMs at a time. The four DIMMs in each bank must be identical. The following table shows the pairs that are in each bank. See Table 8 on page 98 for the DIMM connector pair assignments.

vWhen you install or remove DIMMs, the server configuration information changes. When you restart the server, the system displays a message indicating that the memory configuration has changed.

Complete the following steps to install a DIMM in your server:

1.Read the safety information beginning on page 197 and “Installation guidelines” on page 77.

2.Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables; then, open the server cover.

Attention: When you handle static-sensitive devices, take precautions to avoid damage from static electricity. For details about handling these devices, see “Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 78.

3.Open the DIMM access door that covers the DIMM connector into which you will be installing the DIMM.
