4.Set the memory-board assembly on a static-free, clean work surface, and remove the DIMMs and VRMs that will be reused. See “Installing memory” on page 98.

5.Remove the memory board from the memory-board assembly.

6.Install the DIMMs and VRMs that were removed in step 4 into the new board.

7.Reinstall the memory board.

8.Reinstall the memory-board assembly.

Note: When you install or remove the memory board, the server configuration information changes. Therefore, you must change and save the new configuration information by using the Configuration/Setup Utility program (see “Starting the Configuration/Setup Utility program” on page 12).

Memory-board voltage regulator module (VRM)

This section contains instructions for removing and replacing memory-board VRMs.

Before you begin:

vRead “Installation guidelines” on page 77.

vRead the safety notices at “Safety notices (multilingual translations)” on page 201.

vRead “Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 200.

To remove a voltage regulator module (VRM) from the memory board, complete the following steps:

1.Turn off the server (see “Turning off the server” on page 8), and disconnect all power cords and external cables.

2.Open the DIMM access door that covers the memory-board VRM that you are
