Setting Community Access Strings
You may configure up to five community strings authorized for management acce ss
by clients using SNMP v1 and v2c. All community strings used for IP Trap Mana g ers
should be listed in this table. For security reasons, you should con side r re mov ing th e
default strings.

SNMP Community Capability
– The switch supports up to five community strings.
Current – Displays a list of the community strings curre ntly confi gured.
Community String – A community string that acts like a pas sword and perm its
access to the SNMP protocol.
Default strings : “public” (rea d-only access), “private” (read/wr ite access)
Range: 1-32 characters, case sensitive
Access Mode – Specifies the access rights for the community string:
- Read-Only – Authorized manag ement stations are on ly able to retriev e MIB
objects.
- Read/Write – Authorized manage ment stations are able to both retrieve and
modify MIB objects.
Web
– Click SNMP, Configuration. Add new community strings as required, select
the access rights from the Access Mode drop-down list, then click Add.

– The following example adds the string “spiderman” with read/write access.
