Chapter 6: User Authentication
You can restrict management access to this switch and provide se cure net work
access using the following options:
User Accounts – Manually configure manag ement acce ss rights for use rs.
Authentication Settings – Use re mote auth enticati on to configur e access rights.
HTTPS Settings – Provide a secure web connection.
SSH Settings – Provide a secure shell (for secure Telnet access).
Port Security – Configure secure addresses for individu al ports.
802.1X – Use IEEE 802.1X port authentication to control access to specif ic ports.
IP Filter – Filters management access to the web, SNMP or T elnet interf ace.

Configuring User Accounts

The guest only has read access for most configuration parameters. Howeve r, the
administrator has write access for all parameters governing the on board agent. You
should therefore assign a new administrator passwor d as soo n as pos sible, and
store it in a safe place.
The default guest name is “guest” with the password “guest.” The default
administrator name is “admin” with the password “admin.”
Command Attributes
Account List – Displays the current list of us er account s and ass ociated acc ess
levels. (Defaults: admin, and guest)
New Account – Displays configurati on setti ngs for a new account.
- User Name – The name of the user.
(Maximum length: 8 characters; maximum number of users: 16)
- Access Level – Specifies the user level.
(Options: Normal and Privileged)
- Password – Specifies the user passwo rd.
(Range: 0-8 characters plain text, case sensitive)
Change Password – Sets a new password for th e specifi ed user.
