This command specifies the passw ord for a line. Us e the no form to remove the
password.
Syntax
password {0 | 7} password
no password
• {0 | 7} - 0 means plain password, 7 means encrypte d passwo rd
password - Character string that specifies the line password.
(Maximum length: 8 characters plain text, 32 encrypted, case sensitive)

Command Usage
When a connection is started on a line with password protection, the system
prompts for the password. If you enter the correct password , the syste m
shows a prompt. You can use the
password-thresh
command to set the
number of times a user can enter an incorrect password before th e system
terminates the line connection and returns the terminal to the idle state.
The encrypted password is required for compatibility with legac y passwor d
settings (i.e., plain text or encrypted) when reading the configur ation file
during system bootup or when downloading the configuration file from a TFTP
server. There is no need for you to manually configure enc rypted pas swords.
