Command Usage
This command is used to include a cli ent identifier in all communicati ons with
the DHCP server, which uses it to index its database of addr ess bindings. The
information included in the identifier is based on R FC 2132 Option 60, and
must be unique for all clients in the same admini strative domain.

This command submits a BOOTP or DHCP client request.

Command Usage
This command issues a BOOTP or DHCP client request for any IP interface
that has been set to BOOTP or DHCP mode via the
ip address
command.
DHCP requires the server to reassign the client’s la st addre ss if available .
If the BOOTP or DHCP server has been moved to a different do main, the
network portion of the address provided to the client will be based on this new
domain.
Example
In the following example, the device is reassigned the same add ress.
Console(config)#interface vlan 1
Console(config-if)#ip address dhcp
Console(config-if)#exit
Console#ip dhcp restart client
Console#show ip interface
Vlan 1 is up, addressing mode is DHCP
