Configuring VLAN Behavior for Interfaces
You can configure VLAN behavior for specific interfaces, including the default VLAN
identifier (PVID), accepted frame types, ingress filtering, GVRP status, and GARP
timers.
Command Usage
• GVRP – GARP VLAN Registration Protocol defines a way for swi tches to
exchange VLAN information in order to automatically register VLAN members on
interfaces across the network.
• GARP – Group Address Registration Protoco l is used by GVRP to register or
deregister client attributes for client services within a bridged LAN. The default
values for the GARP timers are independent of the media access m ethod or dat a
rate. These values should not be changed unless you are expe rienc ing diffic ulties
with GVRP registration/deregistration.
Command Attributes
•
PVID
– VLAN ID assigned to untagged frames received on the interface. (Default: 1)
- If an interface is not a member of VLAN 1 and you assign its PVID to this VLAN,
the interface will automatically be added to VLAN 1 as an untagged member. For
all other VLANs, an interface must first be configured as an unt agged me mber
before you can assign its PVID to that group.
• Acceptable Frame Type – Sets the int erface to accep t all frame types, in cluding
tagged or untagged frames, or only tagged frames. When se t to rece ive all fram e
types, any received frames that are untagged are assigned to the defa ult VLAN.
(Option: All, Tagged; Default: All)

Ingress Filtering
– Determines how to process frames tagged for VLANs for which
the ingress port is not a member. (Default: Disabled)
- Ingress filtering only affects tagged frames.
- If ingress filtering is disabled and a port receives frames tagged for VLA Ns for
which it is not a member, these frames will be flooded to all other ports (except
for those VLANs explicitly forbidden on th is port ).
- If ingress filtering is enabled and a port receives frames tagged for VL ANs for
which it is not a member, these frames will be discarded.
- Ingress filtering does not affect VLAN independent BPDU fram es, such as GVRP
or STP. However, they do affect VLAN dependent BPDU frames, such as GMRP.

GVRP Status
– Enables/disables GVRP for the interface. GVRP must be globally
enabled for the switch before this setting can take effect. (See “Displaying Bridge
Extension Capabilities” on page 4-4.) When disabled, any GVRP packets received
on this port will be discarded and no GVRP registrations will be propagated from
other ports. (Default: Disabled)
• GARP Join Timer13 – The interval between t ransm itting re quests/ queries to
participate in a VLAN group. (Range: 20-1000 centiseconds; Default: 20)
• GARP Leave Timer13 – The interval a port waits before leaving a VLAN group.
This time should be set to more than twice the join time. This e nsures that af ter a
