ping

To ping an IP address, use the ping command.

ping ip-address [count]

Specifies the IP address of the host to ping.

Specifies the number of ping packets to be sent.

Usage Guidelines If no value is entered for the count, the system will default to 5. The system will accept a maximum count of 20.

If the ping is issued from a Telnet session, control-c will stop the ping. If the ping is issued from a serial port, control-c will not stop the ping.

Examples

The following example shows how to ping an IP address.

edfa > ping 192.168.0.1

PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1): 56 data bytes

--- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---

5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
