Chapter2 Installing the Cisco ONS 15501
Required Tools and Parts
Use the site log as a record of ongoin g system maintenance. Each tim e a procedure is performed on
the Cisco ONS 15501, up date the site log to refle ct situations such as main tenance schedules and
requirements, intermitten t problems, changes and updates, configuration chan ges, and related
comments and notes.
Required Tools and Parts
You need the following tools and parts to install the CiscoONS 15501:
Phillips screwdriver
Wire cutters, as needed (for DC power w iring)
Wire strippers, as needed (for DC power wiring)
Crimp tool (for grounding wire)
Digital voltmeter (with o hmmeter function)
Grounding wire (8 AWG)
Power supply connection wire (18 AWG)
Listed two-hole copper grounding lug (0.25in. [0.635 cm] diameter bolt hole size, 0.625 in.
[1.5875 cm] center-to-center hol e spacing)
Installation Checklist
The installation checklist includes the procedures for initial hardware installation of the
Cisco ONS 15501. Mark the e ntries as you complete each pro cedure. Make a copy of this checkl ist, as
needed, for the site log.
