Setting Up Alarm Contacts

To set up alarm contacts, follow these steps:
Step 1 Obtain an 8-conductor, 8 AWG solid-wire cable and terminate one end with an RJ-45 connector.
Step 2 Connect the stub end of the a larm cable to the alarm syste m contacts, either to miscellaneo us discrete
inputs on terminal equipment or to a central office alarm panel.
Step 3 Connect the RJ-45 connector to the CiscoONS 15501.

Installation Commands
You can connect to a Cisco ONS 15501 locally using a serial connection or remotely through SNMP. See
the Configuring Local Serial Comm unication section on page 3-1 for instructions on setting up either
of these options. After you establish a connection, use the following commands to complete the hardware
installation. See Chapter 4, Command Reference, for a complete list of available comman ds.

Introductory Commands

You can use the following commands to establish communication with the CiscoONS 15501 and to
access additional information ab out the amplifier.
help — Displays a list of all available com mands
sys-info Displays the basic information on the system, including CLEI (Common Language
Equipment Identifier ) code, model numbe r, serial number, MAC addres s, firmware version, an d
firmware build date

Review and Operational Commands

You can use the following commands to review the overall status of the CiscoONS 15501.
alarm Displays a list of alarms in the system
status Displays the measured, alarm mea n, and alarm trigge r values for input power, in ternal case
temperature, optical gain, and output signal power, as well as the measured values for optical output
power
