Evaluate the Existing Network Environment

Figure 2-3. The AP as a Supplicant

The ProCurve AP 530 and the AP 420 both include a supplicant. In addition, the radio ports (RPs) used with the Wireless Edge Services Module include a supplicant.

Because it is common to use Web-Auth as the access control method for guests who access a wireless network, you should also determine if the AP supports this access method. Again, ProCurve APs and the Wireless Edge Services Module support Web-Auth. (With the AP 420, however, Web-Auth is imple- mented on the intelligent edge switch. If you are using the AP 420, ensure that the switches support that authentication method.)

Finally, you should determine if the APs support MAC-Auth. Do they support local MAC-Auth or RADIUS MAC-Auth?

You can use a table such as Table 2-4 to gather and record information about your company’s APs. Again, the table provides an example and some spaces for you to record information about your company’s APs.
