Explanation

0No search instructions. Default value for executable files.

1If a directory path is specified in the executable file, the executable file searches only that path.

If a path is not specified, the executable file searches the default directory and network search drives.

2The executable file searches only the default directory or the path specified.

3If a directory path is specified in the executable file, the executable file searches only that path.

If a path is not specified and the executable file opens data files flagged Read Only, the executable file searches the default directory and search drives.

4Reserved.

5The executable file searches the default directory and NetWare search drives whether or not the path is specified.

If a search mode is set, the shell allows searches for any files with

.XXX extension; otherwise the executable file searches only for

.EXE, .COM, and .BAT files.

6Reserved.

7If the executable file opens data files flagged Read Only, the executable file searches the default directory and search drives whether or not the path is specified in the executable file.
