Specifications
4-10 M axtor Atlas 10K III
The Maxtor Atlas 10K III hard disk drive can withstand levels of shock and
vibration applied to any of its three mutually perpendicular axes, or principal base
axis, as sp ecified in Table 4 -8. A functioning drive c an be subjecte d to specified
operating levels of shock and vibration. When a drive has been subjected to
specified non-operating levels of shock and vibration, with power to the drive
off, there will be no change in performance at power on.
When packed in its 1-pack shipping container, the Maxtor Atlas 10K III drive
can withstand a drop from 30 inches onto a concrete surface on any of its surfaces,
six edges, or three corners. The 12-pack s hipping container can withstand a drop
fr om 30 inches ont o a conc rete sur f a ce on any of it s surfa ces, six edg e s, or th ree
corners.
Shock a nd Vibration Spe cifications
Note: 1. At ambient temperature and no unrecoverable errors.
Component Life: 5 years
Preventive Maintenance (PM): Not required
Contact Start/Stop: 50,000 cy cles at all environments
(Equal num ber of power off
and standby spin downs)
Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) No greater than 0.9 percent
Drive reliability is closely related to the temperatures the drive is exposed to. The
operational design temperature am bient is 86°F (30°C). T emperatu re ambient
above 131°F (55°C) or below 41°F (5°C) may decrease drive reliability.
