The SET DEVICE IDEN TIFIE R co mmand requests that the device identifier
in fo rmati o n in the l o gi cal u nit be s e t to the v a lue se nd v i a th e SE T DEVI C E
IDENTIFIER command’s parameter list. The data format and field descriptions are
sh o w n in T a b l e 5- 201 and T able 5-202 resp ective ly.
Upon successful completion of a SET DEVICE IDENTIFIER command, a Unit

The SET DEVI CE IDENTIFIER command’s parameter list contains Identifier to be
set by the logical unit to which the command is sent. The parameter list is shown
below in Table 5-203 and the field descriptions are shown in Table 5-204.

This fi eld speci fies the length, in bytes, of th e Identif ier to be trans ferred
from the applicatio n client to t he device server. The maximu m value for
this field is 64 bytes. A paramet er li st length of 0 indicates t hat no dat a
will be transferred, and that subsequent REPORT DEVICE IDENTIFIER
commands will return an Identifier length of 0. If the parameter list length
exceeds 64 bytes, then the drive ret urns a Check Condition status w it h
the sense key set to Illegal Request, and an addit ional sense code of In-
vali d Fiel d in CDB.

The value repor ted in this fiel d is t he data t o be returned by all
subsequent REPORT DEVICE IDENTIFIER commands, until a new
SET DEVICE IDENTIFI ER com mand is issued th at changes the
data.
