SCSI message-level errors are communicated by messages that are defined specifically
for that pu rpo se . SCSI command -level errors are commu nicated by a status that is
returned by the drive during the STATUS phase. This phase occurs at the end of each
command, u nless the command is terminated by one of the following events:
ABORT TASK SET message
ABORT TASK message
TARGET RESET message
CLEAR QUE UE message
Unexpected disconnect
The sta tu s co de is cont a ined i n bit s 1 through 5 of the status byt e. Bit s 0 , 6 , and 7 a r e
reserved. Table 5-6 describes the status codes returned by the drive.
Status Codes
00h GOOD The drive successfully completed the command.
02h CHECK CONDITION An Auto Contingent Allegianc e (ACA) cond ition occurr ed.
08h BUSY
The drive cannot service the command at the moment, and
its Command Descri ptor Block has been discarded. The ini-
tiat or can retr y the command at a lat er time. Thi s stat us is
re turned when:
10h INTERMEDIATE
This s tatus is returne d for every command ( except the last)
in a series of li nked commands tha t was succe ssf ully com-
pleted . However, if the com mand is terminat ed with other
that GOOD status (such as CHECK CONDITION, RESERVA-
TION CONFLICT, OR BUSY), the INTERMEDIATE status is
not retu rned and the series of linked com man ds and the
ta sk is ended.
18h RESERVATION CONFLICT Another i nitiator has r eserved the dr ive. (This status is nev-
er returned for INQUIRY or REQUEST SENSE commands. )
28h TASK SET FULL
The drive cannot service the command at the moment, and
its Comman d Descri ptor Blo ck has been discar ded. (Re-
turned f or a tagg ed command when all of the dri ve's int er -
nal command buffers are in use, or when a host sends a
tagged command while an Auto Contingent Allegiance con-
diti on is pending for that ini tiator)
