4-6 M axtor Atlas 10K III
Table 4-5 lists the drive power dissipation and the corresponding currents for the
vario us m o d e s of op eration of th e Maxtor A t la s 1 0K III h a rd d is k driv e.
Power Dissipation in Various Modes (Low-Profile Drives)
1. Current is RMS except for Startup. Startup current is the peak (> 10 ms)
current required during spindle startup. Current measurements do not
include power required for SCSI termination.
2. Idle mode is in effect when the drive is not reading, writing, seeking, or
executing any commands. A portion of the R/W circuitry is powered
down, the motor is up to speed and the Drive Ready c ondition exists. The
actuato r resides on the last track accessed.
3. Random Seek + Read/Write measured at 100% random 2KB R/W, Q=4.
4. Maximum Average Current is defined as mean current plus 3 Standard
Deviations.
5. P o w e r req u i rem en ts reflect nomi n al v alu es fo r +12V and +5 V p o wer
supplies.
6. Standby mode is in effect when the motor is stopped, the actuator parked,
and all electronics except the interface control is in low power state. Standby
will occur after a programmable time-out since last host access occurs. Drive
Ready and Seek Complete status exist. The Standby mode will not be in
effect upon receipt of a command which requires disk access or upon receipt
of a spin-up com man d .
