The Initialization Pattern descriptor is sent to the drive as part of the FORMAT UNIT parameter list. Table 5-19describes the Initialization Pattern descriptors. The contents of the descriptor fields are described in Table 5-20and the types in Table 5-21.

The Initialization Pattern Type field (Table 5-21) indicates the type of pattern

portion of the medium. All bytes within a logical sector are written with the

initialization pattern.

The Initialization Pattern Length field indicates the number of bytes contained
